Molasses Fruit Bars Recipe
Ingredients
| Shortening | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs), firmly packed | |
| Egg | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1/4 Cup Light or Dark Molasses | ||
| Flour | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Powdered cinnamon | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Powdered ginger | 1 Teaspoon | |
| 1/2 Tsp. Powdered Cloves | ||
| Seedless raisins | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
Cream together first 4 ingredients with electric mixer or by hand until ingredients are well blended.
Add dry ingredients and mix.
It will be a moderately stiff dough.
Add raisins.
With floured fingers, press dough evenly into 2 - 9" x 9" x 1" greased and floured pans, or a 13" x 9" cookie sheet may be used.
Brush entire surface of dough with water and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
Cool and cut into bars and store in airtight container.
These cookies keep well and develop flavor and a chewy texture upon storage.
