1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
 
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
 
1 cup dark molasses
 
1 1/4 cups water
 
1 egg, beaten
 
3 cups sifted flour
 
2 teaspoons baking soda
 
1 cup sifted flour
 
1 cup sugar
 
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

Directions

In a large bowl combine brown sugar, melted butter, molasses, water and beaten egg.
Sift together the 3 cups flour and baking soda.
Stir into molasses mixture and mix thoroughly.
Spoon batter into paper-muffin-lined plastic coffee cup holders or plastic muffin pan.
Fill only half full.
For crumb topping combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter or margarine in a small bowl.
Spoon 2 heaping teaspoonfuls of topping mixture on each cupcake.
Place 6 cupcakes at a time around outside edge of turntable, leaving center of turntable empty.
Heat, uncovered, on roast for 4 minutes or until cupcakes test done with wooden pick.
