Molasses Chocolate Squares Recipe

| All purpose flour | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |

| Shortening | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Molasses | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Brown sugar | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs), firmly packed | |
| 1 egg, well-beaten | ||
| Semi-sweet chocolate | 1 7 Ounce | |
Directions
Sift together flour and salt.
Add shortening to molasses, and cook over low heat, while stirring, for 2 min., or until shortening is melted.
Add soda and brown sugar, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
Cool.
Add beaten egg, sifted dry ingredients, and chocolate, cut along scorings.
Mix well.
Using a spatula, spread over bottom of 2 greased or oiled 8" x 8" x 2" pans.
Bake in moderate oven of 350ºF for 20 min.
Cut into 2" squares.
