Recipe Story

This recipe is very popular in the hindu month of Bhadrapad. Modak is favourite of Lord Ganesha. The number 21 is favourite of lord Ganesh. So the offerings consist of 21 modaks.

Ingredients

 
Semolina 1 cup.
 
Clarified butter 1 tablespoon.
 
Milk to make a dough of semolina.
 
Oil to fry.
 
Grated coconut 1 cup.
 
Powdered sugar 1 tablespoon.
 
Cashewnut pieces 1 tablespoon.
 
Raisins 1 tablespoon.
 
Cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon.
 
Nutmeg powder 1/2 teaspoon.

Directions

Mix warm clarified butter with semolina. Then mix warm Milk to form a soft dough. Set it aside for 30 minutes.
Now mix grated coconut, powdered sugar, cashewnuts, raisins, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder.
Divide the dough in 21 parts. Make small puris of each part. Place a puri on your palm. Place small amounts of mixture in centre of puri. Now bring the sides together and seal it by pressing. The sealed modak should look like the small chocolates called kisses.
Seal all the modaks in this way.
One by one fry each modak.
If you don't want to fry it then you can steam it

Theses modaks looks very much like Wada (Vada Pav) nobody can say they are modaks even after looking at the filling. Looking at the ingredients seem that they have to be tasty but dont know never tried.
