Ingredients

 Dry yeast1
 Lukewarm water1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Unsifted flour4 Cup (16 tbs)
 1 c. cooked cold grits
 Shortening1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Sugar2 Tablespoon
 Salt2 Teaspoon
 Soft butter or margarine

Directions

Dissolve the yeast in water.
Mix the flour, grits, shortening, sugar and salt in a bowl and stir in the yeast.
Knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
Place in a well-greased loaf pan and grease top with butter.
Let rise until doubled in bulk.
Bake at 400 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until light brown.
Remove from pan and place loaf on oven rack.
Bake until golden brown.
Remove from oven and brush top of loaf with butter.
