Ingredients
3/4 cup barley, soaked overnight in water to cover
2 quarts buttermilk
1/4 pound lean salt pork, diced
4 frankfurters, sliced
1 cup raisins
1/4 teaspoon chervil
1/4 teaspoon thyme
Brown sugar or molasses
Directions
Drain the barley and place in a heavy pan with the buttermilk and salt pork.
Bring to a simmer, cover and cook slowly for 2 hours.
Add frankfurters and raisins and simmer 15 minutes more.
Stir in the chervil and thyme.
