Add the half cup of boiling water and, when the chocolate is melted, beat with a wooden spoon until smooth.
Stir in the hot milk, cream, sugar, salt and spices.
Cook one hour, beating vigorously at intervals of ten minutes.
When ready to serve, beat the eggs with the vanilla.
Add a little of the hot chocolate to the eggs, then stir into the remainder of the chocolate.
