Mexican Macaroni Recipe
Mexican Macaroni lend a Mexican flavor to this long established family favorite. I make this particular Mexican Macaroni with turkey. Really easy to make!
Ingredients
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 green pepper, chopped
2 tbs (30 ml) butter
2 tbs (30 ml) olive oil
15-oz can (450 ml) tomato sauce
15-oz can (450 g) stewed tomatoes, slightly cut up
1 tsp (5 ml) Italian seasoning
1 tsp (5 ml) salt
1/2 tsp (3 ml) garlic powder
1/2 tsp (3 ml) cumin
1 tsp (5 ml) celery seed
1/4 tsp (1 ml) whole chile seeds
1 lb (455 g) ground turkey
8 oz (240 g) Macaroni, cooked
Directions
In a medium saucepan, saute onion, garlic and pepper in butter and oil until onions are almost clear.
Add tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes.
Bring mixture to a boil and add Italian seasoning, salt, garlic powder, cumin, celery seed and whole chile seeds.
Lower heat and simmer.
In the meantime, brown turkey, drain excess fat before adding to the tomato mixture.
Simmer mixture to reach desired consistency, at least 1-2 hours.
When sauce is ready, mix with cooked macaroni.
