Meringue Shell Recipe

Ingredients
4 egg whites
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. powdered sugar tartar
Directions
Have egg whites at room temperature.
Combine egg whites, cream of tartar, salt and vanilla in large bowl of mixer.
Beat until foamy; add 1 cup powdered sugar gradually, beating until stiff peaks form.
Spread meringue about 1 inch thick over bottom of greased 9-inch pie pan, building up high, fluffy border.
Keep rim of pan free of meringue.
Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour.
Meringue should be delicate cream color and feel dry and firm to the touch.
Let meringue cool in pan.
