Ingredients

 
2 egg whites
 
Dash salt
 
1 cup sugar
 
1 cup chopped walnuts
 
1 cup chopped dates
 
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Using a rotary beater, beat egg whites stiff in the upper part of a double boiler.
Add salt and gradually beat in sugar.
Put over boiling water and continue beating until the mixture gets sugary around the edges.
Add walnuts, dates, and vanilla; stir well.
Drop by small teaspoonfuls onto a well-buttered baking sheet.
Bake in a 250° oven for almost an hour, or until they are set and firm so that they can be removed without breaking.
Cool on a rack, then store tightly covered.
