Melted Onions Recipe

I originally made this Melted Onions for my spouse but I can't stop eating it now! There is not a single month when I don't serve this yummy Side Dish! I cant believe you still haven't attempted to prepare my Melted Onions recipe.

Ingredients

 
6 medium-sized yellow or red onions
 
1/4 cup (60 mL) butter or margarine
 
1/2 tsp (2 mL) sugar
 
1/4 tsp (1 mL) pepper
 
Salt to taste

Directions

Peel the onions as for Onions "Nature" and cut into round slices, thinly or thickly, as you prefer.
Place the butter or margarine in an 8-cup (2 L) microwave-safe dish and melt at HIGH 3 minutes.
The butter will be golden brown.
Microwave only 1 minute if you prefer to have just melted butter with a natural color.
Add the onions, sugar and pepper.
Stir well, cover and microwave 6 to 8 minutes at HIGH, stirring once after 5 minutes.
The onions should be soft but not mushy.
When ready, salt to taste.
Serve or use as suggested above.
