Meatballs Oriental Recipe

1 pound ground beef
1 cup small bread cubes
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 can (12 ounces) pineapple chunks
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1 tablespoon shortening
1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed beef broth
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/3 cup sliced water chestnuts
1/4 teaspoon ginger

Directions
Mix beef, bread cubes, egg, onion, salt, and 1/8 teaspoon allspice; divide into 16 parts.
Drain pineapple, saving juice.
Shape meat firmly around each pineapple chunk to form meatballs.
In skillet, brown meatballs and cook green pepper in shortening until tender; pour off fat.
Stir in broth, 1/2 cup pineapple juice, cornstarch, water chestnuts, ginger, and remaining allspice.
Bring to boil, stirring constantly.
Cover; cook over low heat 20 minutes.
Stir now and then.
