Ingredients

 3/4 cup raisins or currants

 3/4 cup diced dried figs or dates
 2/3 cup chopped candied lemon or orange peel
 Blanched almonds3/4 Cup (16 tbs) (Mazurkas or Royal Mazurkas or Almond Mazurkas Fruit Filling:)
 Egg1 (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 Egg white1 (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 Confectioner’s sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs) (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 Butter1/3 Cup (16 tbs), melted (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 Lemon juice1 Tablespoon (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 Vanilla extract1 Teaspoon (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 Almonds2 Ounce (1/2 cup chopped walnuts Topping:)
 3/4 cup) 2 tablespoons bread crumbs

Directions

Prepare and bake mazurkas as directed.
Do not cut into squares.
For fruit filling, combine apricots and raisins in a saucepan.
Add water.
Bring to boiling.
Cover; remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes.
Drain raisins and apricots.
Combine with other fruits and nuts.
Spread evenly over mazurkas.
For topping, combine egg and egg white with confectioners' sugar.
Beat at high speed until very thick and fluffy, about 7 minutes.
Gradually beat in melted butter, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
Fold in ground almonds and bread crumbs.
Spread egg mixture over fruit layer.
Bake at 350°F about 15 minutes, or until topping is golden but still moist.
Cool in pan on rack 5 minutes, then cut into squares.
