Mazurkas With Apple Topping Recipe
Ingredients
| Mazurkas or Royal Mazurkas or | ||
| Almond Mazurkas | ||
| Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Water | 1/3 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Apples | 3 Pound, thinly sliced | |
| 2 teaspoons grated lemon or orange peel | ||
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Blanched almonds | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), finely chopped | |
Directions
Prepare and bake mazurkas as directed.
Do not cut into squares.
Combine sugar and water in a large saucepan.
Simmer 5 minutes.
Add apples and lemon peel.
Cook over medium heat until apples are soft, about 5 to 10 minutes; stir frequently to prevent sticking.
If desired, add salt and almonds.
Cook and stir until apples are translucent on edges and mixture clings to the spoon.
Remove from heat.
Cool 15 to 20 minutes.
Spread apple filling over warm baked mazurkas.
Cool completely.
Cut into 2 inch squares.
Do not cut into squares.
