Matrimonial Cake Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup finely chopped dates
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
Directions
Beat the rolled oats, flour, baking soda, butter and brown sugar in a mixing bowl until smooth.
Combine the dates, water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil; boil gently until thickened, stirring constantly.
Layer half the oat mixture, the date filling and the remaining oat mixture in a greased 9x13 inch cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until cake tests done.
