Ingredients
Shelled Peas - 250 gms
Basmati Rice - 3 cups
Cumin Seeds - 2 tsp
Onions - 3 (finely chopped)
Fresh Ginger - 50 gms (grated)
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Cinnamon Sticks - 2
Cloves - 2
Big Cardamoms - 3
Peppercorns - 1/2 tsp
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Directions
GETTING READY
1 Wash the rice well.
2 In a bowl, soak the rice in double the quantity of water for about 1 hour.
MAKING
3 In a large pan heat the ghee and add the cumin seeds.
4 Fry well and add in the finely chopped onions and the grated ginger.
5 Fry until the onions turn golden brown.
6 Add in the peas and mix well.
7 You can also add shredded carrot for more taste and color.
8 Add the cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon, cardamoms, turmeric powder and salt.
9 Gradually add in the washed rice and mix gently.
10 Pour in double the quantity of water and cover with a lid.
11 Cook for 20 minutes till the water has dried up and the rice is cooked.
SERVING
12 Serve hot.
