Maple Syrup Gingerbread Recipe
The maple syrup gingerbread is a simply delightful recipe for preparing gingerbread. Prepared with a batter of eggs, sugar, flour, ginger and sour cream , with added spices and orange peel along with sweet maple syrup, the bread is baked till set and can be served with cold apple sauce or whipped cream.

| Firmly packed brown sugar | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sour cream | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Shortening | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), melted | |
| Pastry flour | 2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Baking powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Ginger | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Cinnamon | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cloves | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Nutmeg | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Candied orange peel | 1 Tablespoon, finely chopped |
Directions
Beat eggs until light and add the syrup, brown sugar, sour cream and shortening.
Add sifted dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
Add the peel.
Batter will be thin.
Grease a deep 8 1/2 to 9 inch square pan and line the bottom with wax paper.
Fill with the batter and bake at 350F for 35 to 40 minutes or until centre is set.
Serve with chilled applesauce and whipped cream.
