Ingredients

1/2. teaspoon (2 ml) active dry yeast

1/2 cup (125 ml) lukewarm water

3/4 teaspoon (4 ml) sugar

1 1/2 cups (375 ml) flour

1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) salt

2 teaspoons (10 ml) pancake syrup

1 tablespoon (15 ml) hot water

3 tablespoons (45 ml) sesame seeds

1 tablespoon (15 ml) oil

1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil

Directions

1. Put yeast in warm water to dissolve for 2-3 minutes. Add sugar and mix well. Let stand for another 2-3 minutes.
2. Put flour in a mixing bowl. Slowly pour in yeast solution and blend well. Knead to a soft dough. Cover with a damp cloth and let stand in a warm area for 30-45 minutes.
3. Punch risen dough and turn over to a lightly floured board. Add salt and knead for 3-4 minutes to get a smooth dough. Sprinkle a little flour on the board while kneading.
4. Roll dough into a 1 1/2" diameter sausage shape. Cut into 6-7 equal portions. Shape each into a ball. Then flatten dough with your palm to a 3 1/2" diameter, 1/2" thick biscuit.
5. Brush the top of each biscuit with mixture of 2 teaspoons (10 ml) syrup and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hot water. Immediately dip this side into sesame seeds. Lightly press biscuit with rolling pin to press in sesame seeds. Let stand for 15-20 minutes.
6. Combine 1 tablespoon oil and 1 teaspoon sesame oil and blend well. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil mixture in a skillet or non-sticking pan over medium heat for 1-2 minutes. Put in 2-3 biscuits (sesame seed facing up)
