Directions

Grease baking sheet; set aside.
In heavy 2-quart saucepan, combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter and salt.
Cook and stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved.
Add pecans.
Cook over medium heat to 234°F (approximately 9 minutes), stirring constantly.
Remove from heat; add vanilla.
Cool 5 minutes without stirring.
Stir vigorously until mixture thickens and loses its gloss; about 5 minutes.
Drop quickly by tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet.
Cool.
