Recipe Story

The lime rice is a dish that I like to take along while on a picnic or during travel. I like to combine it with a dry chicken while going out. At home however, I combine the lime rice with a raita and chicken curry which makes it a complete meal that would be ready in a jiffy.

Ingredients

Basmati rice – 1 cup

Lemon juice – of one lemon

Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp

Ghee- 1 tbsp

Salt – to taste

Curry leaves – a handful

For Tempering:

Mustard seeds- ½ tsp

Urad dal -1/2 tsp

Chana dal-1/2 tsp(soaked in water)

Curry leaves- 3 to 4

Dry red chillies – 1 (split into two)

Directions

Soak basmati rice for half an hour. Wash and drain. Take a pan and add ghee in it. Add the rice and fry. Add the turmeric powder, lime juice, curry leaves and salt. Cover and cook till done. Temper with all ingredients for tempering. Mix well. Serve with raita and chicken/mutton curry.

Thanks mel. Thank you shanti will post a few of my thoughts on the blogs section soon. Yes Ganesh , Lime rice is a popular south Indian rice preparation. I like to take it along on a picnic or while travelling as it stays fresh for long. Yes you can add roasted peanuts as well when the rice is done. Pulihora is however, a different preparation and not the same as lime rice. "Puli" means tamarind and is actually tamarind rice made with a mixture of tamarind paste.
