Ingredients

 
1 cup all purpose flour
 
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
 
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
 
1/4 teaspoon salt
 
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
 
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
 
3/4 cup sugar
 
3 eggs
 
2 teaspoons grated orange rind
 
1/4 cup milk
 
1 1/2 cups finely chopped walnuts
 
Honey Syrup

Directions

1. Sift flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg onto wax paper; reserve.
2. Beat butter or margarine with sugar until fluffy in large bowl of electric mixer at high speed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add orange rind.
3. Stir in flour mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition until batter is smooth. Add nuts. Pour into greased 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
4. Bake in moderate oven (350°) 35 minutes, or until center springs back when lightly pressed with fingertip.
5. Cool cake in pan on wire rack 10 minutes; gradually pour cool syrup over cake, letting syrup soak into cake before adding more. or cool cake completely, then pour hot syrup over.
