Lemon Sauce Recipe
Lemon sauce is a flavorful and refreshing sweet sauce made for desserts and serving over cakes. The lemon sauce is a cooked sauce prepared with lemon juice and peel and egg yolks and spiced with a dash of nutmeg. Sweetened with cornstarch, the lemon sauce goes great over angel cake.
Ingredients
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cornstarch
Dash salt
Dash ground nutmeg
1/2 cup cold water
1 beaten egg yolk
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions
In small saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, and nutmeg.
Stir in water.
Cook and stir over low heat till mixture thickens and bubbles.
Stir small amount hot mixture into beaten egg yolk; return to hot mixture; cook and stir 1 minute longer.
Remove from heat.
Add butter, lemon peel, and lemon juice; blend thoroughly.
Serve over angel cake.
