Zesty Lemon Sauce Recipe
This lemon sauce is a cooked sauce. Prepared with lemon juice and rind, the lemon sauce is made with a water base and sugar for sweetness. Served over puddings or cakes, this lemon sauce is tangy and sweet.
Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
Directions
In a small heavy saucepan, combine the sugar and cornstarch and gradually whisk in the water and lemon juice.
Set over moderate heat, cover, and bring to a boil; immediately reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened and is clear about 2 to 3 minutes.
Remove from the heat, cool, and stir in the lemon rind.
Store, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
