Lemon Date Squares Recipe
Ingredients
| All purpose flour | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Soda | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Baking powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
| 2 cups oats, quick-cooking or regular, uncooked | ||
| Firmly packed brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Shortening | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Date Filling | ||
Directions
Combine flour, soda, and baking powder.
Stir in oats and brown sugar.
Cut in shortening with two knives or pastry blender.
Line greased 9-inch-square pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil or baking paper.
Grease foil or paper.
Pack about half of mixture into pan.
Spread Date Filling over this layer; top with remaining flour mixture.
Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
Set pan on cake rack to cool.
Cut in squares to serve.
