Directions

Mix butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 whole egg, 1 egg yolk (reserve the egg white), and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Stir flour, soda, and salt together; blend into butter mixture, kneading to a stiff dough.
