Kolach Recipe
Kolach is a delicious pastry from the Czech and Slovak Cuisines. This braided bread has become popular in US as well. Celebrate the Kolach festival in June with this irresistible glazed bread. Try this for any party if you want to. Tell me if you like this Kolach.
Ingredients
| Active dry yeast | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Warm water | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Milk | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Unsalted butter | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Flour | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Glaze | ||
| 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water | ||
Directions
1 Dissolve yeast in warm water. Set aside for 5 minutes. Heat milk, sugar, salt, and butter to warm (105°-115°F).
2 Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast mixture, and milk mixture in mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly.
3 Add egg and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth€”about 10 minutes.
4 Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top. Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 1 hour.
5 Punch down dough. Divide into 3 equal pieces. Roll into long ropes and then braid. Make glaze and brush on loaf.
6 Place on greased baking sheet. Brush with glaze. Cover; let rise until double€”about 40 minutes.
7 Bake in a preheated 350°F oven 45-55 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
