Crispy Kale Chips Recipe Video

These Kale Chip is salty, crunchy, crispy and nutritious... which is a dream snack for pregnant (and non-preggo) women! Unbelievably, amazingly, delicious! I mean after all, you are a dark leafy green vegetable! And you know how it is with dark, leafy green veggies... we know we should eat you and so we do, but rarely do we expect you to taste as good as you do. You're quite deceiving with your green, leafy looks. And then to top it all off, who in the world would think you could stand in as a chip substitute? It just seems so "out of your league". But I've gotta give it it to you, not only do you pull it off BUT you excel! As a matter of fact, you do the "chip thing" so well, that people will really have to try you themselves to believe it! You're crunch is amazing!

Ingredients

Kale - 1 bunch, washed and dried really well

Olive oil - 2 teaspoons

Salt - 1/4-1/2 tsp

Directions

1) Pre-heat oven to 350.
2) Remove the stem for each kale leaf and rip or cut the leaves into bite size pieces. There’s no need to be precise or exact, you can make them however big or small as you like.
3) Place kale in a large bowl and toss with olive oil and salt. Take a minute to massage the kale, make sure each piece is lightly coated (trust me, this little step is SO worth it).
4) Spread kale out amongst two rimmed baking sheets being sure not to overlap any of the pieces. It is important that your kale is in a single layer because if the leaves are piled on top of each other they will steam rather than bake which means they won’t get crunchy.
5) Pop in the oven for about 15 minutes or until your leaves are crispy, crunchy! Serve in a bowl and enjoy!!

Editors Review

Being pregnant means you have to follow a strict diet and avoid outside foods as much as you possible. During these days, if you crave for a pack of chips, then these crispy kale chips is a better alternative. This is healthy as well as delicious and can be prepared within minutes.

Hi Gadgey Lady! Please don't be under the misconception that baking is alwasy healthy compared too deep frying! I mean, even baking can be equally harmful as deep frying - when baked, grilled or smoked, it seems, the natural moisture content of the food gets affected, which in turn has its bad effects on our health. In fact, there are much graver health related issues that can pop up with such cooking methods! But as we are so used to the taste when baked or grilled, we really don't bother to care for it. In fact, i believe steaming is the best and the most healthy way of cooking! :)

what about using a dehydrator? I think, the kale would be just as good, crispy and have all its natural goodness ..all this with no extreme heat treatment!!

Will the crunchy and crispy textures be maintained if instead of baking, I fry these kale leaves?

Kale made into chips... now that is so innovative i must say! :) But how do u make it crunchy crispy by the way, for the very reason Kale being a leafy vegetable?
