Directions

Combine and sift together first five ingredients; stir in corn meal.
Combine eggs, milk, and shortening and add, all at once, to dry ingredients.
Stir until just blended, but no longer.
Turn into a greased pan 11" x 7" x 1 1/2" and bake in a moderately hot oven of 400ยบ F for 30-35 min.
Cut in squares and serve hot.
