Ingredients

 3 oz. cooking fat or margarine
 8 oz. golden syrup or treacle
 Soda bicarbonate1 Teaspoon (Leveled)
 4 oz. sultanas or raisins
 Sugar2 Ounce
 3/4 gill of water or milk
 Flour8 Ounce
 Flour 1 teaspoon baking
 Powdered ginger1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Egg1

Directions

Heat fat, sugar, syrup and water in a large pan until fat has melted.
ALLOW TO COOL.
Sieve flour and all dry ingredients together.
Add to ingredients in saucepan and beat well.
Stir in egg and sultanas.
Pour into 7 inch tin lined with greased greaseproof paper and bake in the centre of a very moderate oven (350°F.€”Gas Mark 3) for approximately 1 hour.
Cool in tin a short time before turning out.
