Directions

Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, egg and flavorings.
Blend in flour, soda and cream of tartar.
If dough is too soft to handle, cover and chill about 1 hour.
Heat oven to 375°.
Divide dough into 12 equal parts; on lightly greased baking sheet, shape each part into rectangle, 8x1 1/2 inches.
With wooden spoon handle, make a furrow lengthwise down center of each rectangle.
Spread 1 teaspoon jam in furrow.
Bake about 10 minutes.
Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes.
If desired, cut warm cookies diagonally into 1-inch slices.
Remove to wire racks.
When cool, drizzle with Confectioners' Sugar Icing.
