Directions

Cream shortening. Add jam and sugar, then egg. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Add vanilla, nuts, and chocolate chips. Drop from teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 15 minutes, or until done. This is a moist cookie and will keep well. It is a good way to use up old jam that may have discolored. *Some jams may be very mild in flavor. About '1/4teaspoon allspice, cinnamon, or cloves (or combination) will pick up the flavor of dark fruits, such as plums. Grated rind of a lemon or orange (about 1/2 teaspoon) will help peach, apricot, or pear jam.
