Ingredients

 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
 
1 tsp. soda
 
1/2 tsp. salt
 
1 tsp. cinnamon
 
1 tsp. ginger
 
3/4 c. sugar
 
2 eggs, slightly beaten
 
1 c. buttermilk
 
1/2 c. melted shortening
 
1/2 c. molasses

Directions

Sift flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and ginger into mix- ing bowl.
Add sugar.
Combine eggs, buttermilk, shortening and molasses.
Add egg mixture to dry ingredients all at once; beat for 3 minutes.
Pour into well-greased and lightly floured 9 x 9-inch pan.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes until ginger- bread springs back when touched lightly in center.
Serve warm.
