Directions

GETTING READY
1) Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2) Into a mixing bowl, sift together the first 6 ingredients.
3) Cut in the margarine with a pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal.
4) Add buttermilk and stir until moistened.
5) Now, add currants.
6) Shape into a ball and knead for about 15 seconds.
7) On a lightly greased cookie sheet, place the dough.
8) With your hand, flatten the dough into a circle (about 7 inches in diameter and 1 1/2 inches thick).
9) With a sharp knife, cut a cross on top, about 1/4 inch deep and 5 inches long, to prevent cracking during baking.

MAKING
10) Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes.

SERVING
11) Cool on a wire rack. Slice and serve as required.
