Sugar Topped Irish Soda Bread Recipe
Ingredients
| Sifted flour | 2 Cup (32 tbs) | |
| Melted butter | 1 | |
| Baking powder | 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon | |
| Soda | 3⁄4 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Sugar | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Caraway seed | 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon | |
| Shortening | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Buttermilk | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Dark raisins | 2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs), chopped |
Directions
Sift the flour with baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into a bowl and add caraway seed.
Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles meal.
Make a well in center and pour in the buttermilk.
Add the raisins and mix lightly.
Turn out on a floured board and knead gently.
Shape into a ball and fit into a greased 8 or 9-inch round cake pan.
Cut loaf crosswise into quarters about 2/3 way through dough with a sharp knife or scissors.
Brush top of loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with additional sugar.
Bake in 350-degree oven for about 30 minutes.
