Ingredients
6 to 8 medium apples
1 tablespoon cornstarch or quick-cooking tapioca
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 cup corn syrup
1/2 recipe pastry
Directions
Peel and core apples.
Cut in wedges about1/4 inch thick.
Arrange in 4 small casseroles.
Combine remaining ingredients, except pastry; stir until blended.
Pour mixture evenly over apples.
Roll pastry and cut in four small circles to fit casseroles.
Cut slashes to allow escape of steam.
Place over apples and seal edges.
Bake in a hot oven (450° F) for ten minutes, reduce tem- perature to moderate 350° F and bake for 30 minutes or until apples are tender.
