Individual Apple Sauce-Date Pies Recipe
YUM and extremely scrumptious, who doen't love this Individual Apple Sauce-Date Pies ? One of the most popular desserts for all seasons, this Individual Apple Sauce-Date Pies is a lot satisfying for your taste-buds and is also fun to make!
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2cup shortening
1/2cup grated American cheese
3 tablespoons cold water
2 cups canned apple sauce
1 cup chopped pitted dates
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
11/2 teaspoons grated lemon rind
Directions
Sift together flour and salt.
Cut in shortening with 2 knives or pastry blender.
Add cheese; mix well.
Add enough water to hold ingredients together.
Chill.
(Or use your favorite pastry mix and add the grated cheese.) Combine apple sauce, dates, brown sugar, nutmeg and lemon rind; mix well.
Line individual pie plates with pastry, reserving enough for tops.
Place an equal amount of apple sauce mix- ture into pie plates.
Moisten edges of pastry with cold water.
Roll out remaining pastry; cover tops of pies.
Press edges with tines of fork; trim pastry to edge of pie plate.
Prick tops to allow steam to escape.
Bake in hot oven (400°F.) 30 minutes.
Makes six 4-inch individual pies, or one 9-ineh pie.
