Hungarian Chicken Paprikash Recipe
Ingredients
1 onion, chopped
1/4 cup shortening
3 to 4 pounds chicken pieces
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon flour
Dumplings
Directions
Saute the onion in the shortening in a large skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
Add the chicken, paprika, pepper and salt; saute for about 10 minutes.
Add the water and simmer slowly, covered, for 20 minutes or until chicken is tender.
Remove chicken from the skillet.
Add a mixture of the sour cream and flour to the drippings and mix well.
Layer the Dumplings in the skillet and arrange the chicken pieces on top.
Heat through, covered, and serve.
