Sausage and Pepper Calzone Recipe Video
Ingredients
| Pizza dough ball | 1 Medium, fresh or frozen | |
| Italian sausage | 1 Pound | |
| Yellow bell pepper | 1 Medium | |
| Red bell pepper | 1 Medium | |
| Ricotta cheese | 4 Ounce | |
| Mozzarella cheese | 4 Ounce | |
| Italian seasoning | 1 Tablespoon ((optional, depending on level of seasoning you like)) | |
| Provolone | 6 Medium (slices) | |
| Marinara sauce | 1 Cup (16 tbs) (for dipping) |
Directions
GETTING READY
1.Preheat oven to 400°F.
2.Thinly slice both peppers with mandolin or knife.
3.Roll out dough into a wide circle about 8 to 10 inches, enough to put filling on one side and fold it over. Set aside.
MAKING
4.In a frying pan brown the sausage and cook it thoroughly. Set aside to cool.
5.Add peppers to cooled sausage mixture.
6.Mix together Ricotta and Mozzarella cheese.
7.To this cheese mixture add Italian seasoning and mix well.
8.Now add sausage and vegetables into cheese mixture.
9.Layer your ingredients onto half of the dough.
10.Start by placing slices of Provolone, after that add the sausage, cheese and vegetable mixture, lastly place the rest of the Provolone cheese on top.
11.With a little mixture of milk and water. Glue the edges by folding the dough over .Press nicely with your fingers.
12.If desired, brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
13.Place on mesh crisper (or cookie sheet) and bake at 400°F for about 30 -35 minutes or until nicely brown.
SERVING
14.Using a pizza cutter, slice into pieces and serve with a salad and Marinara sauce.
