Ingredients

 2 pounds beets, trimmed, peeled, and coarsely grated
 1/2 cup coarsely grated onion
 Butter/Margarine3 Tablespoon
 Water1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Dry red wine1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Juice of 1/2 lemon
 Cinnamon1/4 Teaspoon
 Nutmeg1/4 Teaspoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Pepper1/8 Teaspoon

Directions

MAKING
1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over a low flame
2. Add the onion and sauté till soft but not browned.
3. Add the beets and sauté with onion.
4. Add all liquid ingredients and spices and stir well
5. Cover the pan and simmer for 25-30 minutes until beets are tender, stirring occasionally

SERVING
6. Serve the beets alone with your main course our use in salads or as a topping for rolls.
