Directions
Place in a 10-cup (2.5 L) microwave-safe dish.
Add the water, cover and microwave 10 to 12 minutes at HIGH.
Stir after 8 minutes of cooking.
Test tenderness of onions with the point of a paring knife.
Drain through a sieve, reserving the water.
Place the remaining ingredients, except the salt and pepper, and the reserved water in the dish used for cooking the onions.
Microwave 3 minutes at HIGH.
Stir well.
Add the well-drained onions, stir.
Do not cover.
Microwave 3 minutes at HIGH, stirring every minute.
The onions should be soft, with a shiny glaze.
Salt and pepper to taste.
They are easy to reheat.
Keep at room temperature and when ready to serve, microwave 3 minutes at MEDIUM, stirring once.
