1/2 pound (1 1/2 cups) dates, chopped
 
1 cup boiling water
 
2 tablespoons butter
 
1/2 cup sugar
 
1/2 cup honey
 
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
 
3 teaspoons baking powder
 
1/2 teaspoon each salt and cinnamon
 
1 beaten egg
 
1/2 cup chopped California walnuts

Directions

Combine first 5 ingredients; let cool completely.
Sift together dry ingredients.
Add egg to cooled date mixture; then stir into dry ingredients.
Stir in nuts.
Bake in well-greased and floured 9 1/2 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan at 350° for 55 to 65 minutes.
Cool.
