Ingredients
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup honey
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup ground almonds
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup sliced almonds
Directions
1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt onto wax paper.
2. Beat honey and vegetable shortening until fluffy in medium-size bowl with electric mixer at high speed; add egg and beat well; beat in vanilla; turn mixer speed to low.
3. Add sifted dry ingredients, a third at a time, beating just until blended
4. Stir in ground almonds, wheat germ and oats; spread mixture intol well greased 8x8x2-inch baking pan sprinkle sliced almonds over top, pressing in gently.
5. Bake in moderate oven (325°) 551 minutes, or until top springs back when lightly touched with fingertip]
6. Cool completely in pan on wire rack; cut into 16 squares.
