Honey Bread Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups sifted self-rising flour or 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted with 2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/3 cup chopped candied peel
4 1/2 tablespoons thick honey
1 small egg, beaten
2/3 cup milk
Directions
Grease and line a large 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the fat until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the peel and honey followed by the beaten egg and milk, then beat well.
Place the mixture in the prepared pan.
Bake in the center of a moderate oven (350°F) for about 1 hour.
Leave in the pan to cool, before turning out to slice and spread wit'h butter.
