Homestyle Lentil Soup Recipe
Ingredients
| Lentils | 1 pound, dried | |
| Water | 6 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Onions | 2 Medium, chopped | |
| 4 carrots sliced cubed or trimmed in the shape of round balls | ||
| Thyme | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Bay Leaf | 1 | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Sugar | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Whole black peppercorns | 10 To taste | |
| 4 to 5 ounces heavily cured ham or Canadian bacon, cut into 1/2 inch cubes | ||
| Dry red wine | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
Combine all ingredients, except for the wine, in the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low 6 to 8 hours.
Just before serving, stir in the red wine.
Adjust seasonings, if necessary.
Additional water may be added for a thinner consistency.
