Homemade Whole Wheat Pretzels Recipe

Ingredients
1 package dry yeast
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
4 teaspoons brown sugar
Salt to taste, optional
3/4 cup hot water
1 egg, lightly beaten

Directions
Put the yeast in a bowl.
Add both flours, wheat germ, sugar, and salt.
Add the water and mix until the dough forms a ball.
On a lightly floured board, knead the dough for 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
Break off walnut-sized pieces of dough.
Roll each piece between the palms to form a rope and shape into pretzels.
Young children may be happy inventing their own pretzel shapes.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
