Ingredients

 Herring - 600-700 g (1 1/2-1 3/4 lbs) , boned
 Rye flour4 Tablespoon
 Onion1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped (Tomato Mix:)
 Oil1 Tablespoon (Tomato Mix:)
 Tomatoes4 (Tomato Mix:)
 Garlic cloves - 1-2, crushed
 Mild paprika - 1-2 teaspoon
 Salt1 To taste (Tomato Mix:)
 Tomato puree1 Can (10oz) (Tomato Mix:)
 Fish stock or water - 1/2-1 cup
 Mushrooms - 1/2 lb, coarsley choppes
 Salt To Taste
 Pepper To Taste

Directions

GETTING READY
1) Clean the fish and rub it with salt.
2) Let it sit in the salt for 10 minutes.
3) Rinse and make it dry.
4) Cut the fish into 6 cm (2 1/4 in.) wide pieces.
5) Prepare the tomato mix.

MAKING
6) In a pan, saute onions in oil until golden brown.
7) Add, garlic, tomatoes, tomato puree, seasonings and stock/water.
8) Let the mix simmer on low heat for 10 minutes.
9) Add chopped mushrooms.
10) Cover the pan and cook for 10 minutes on low heat.
11) Add little more stock/water, if required.
12) In the rye flour, roll the fish pieces.
13) In oil in a skillet, fry the fish pieces on both sides until ready and brown.
14) On a serving platter, transfer the fish pieces.

SERVING
15) Serve the warm fish with topping of tomato mix.
