Rub in margarine.
Add herbs, then mix to a soft, but not sticky dough with the milk.
Turn out on a lightly floured board.
Knead quickly till smooth, then roll out to about 1/2 inch in thickness.
Cut into 4 rounds with a 3 1/2-4 inch plain cutter or, pressing dough to round shape, cut across into 4 to 6 triangles.
Transfer to a greased baking sheet.
Brush tops with milk, then bake towards top of hot oven (450° F.€”Gas Mark 7) for 12 minutes.
Split open while hot and serve with butter and Cheddar cheese, or with a casserole of steak or ham.
