Harengs A La Boulangere Recipe
Harengs A La Boulangere is a herring recipe made with potatoes and onions. Flavored with marjoramm and thyme, this easy to prepare, french sole recipe is great for parties and even home meals.
Ingredients
| Medium potatoes, parboiled for 5 minutes, then thinly sliced 4 | ||
| Herrings, filleted and cleaned 6 | ||
| Dried marjoram | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Dried thyme | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Lemon juice | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Medium onions, thinly sliced into rings 2 | ||
| Water 125ml/4floz | ||
| Butter 25g/1oz | ||
| Salt | To Taste | |
| Pepper | To Taste | |
Directions
Preheat the oven to fairly hot 190°C (Gas Mark 5,375 °F).
Line the bottom of a large, well greased baking dish with half the potato slices.
Lay the fillets on top and sprinkle over the herbs and seasoning.
Pour over the lemon juice and cover with onion slices.
Lay the remaining potato slices on top.
Pour over the water.
Cut the butter into small pieces and dot them on top ofthe potatoes, and season to taste.
Cover the dish and put into the oven.
Bake for 40 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through and the fish flesh flakes easily.
