With wet hands, divide into four portions and shape each into a patty.
Melt the butter with the oil in a frying pan.
Add the patties and brown quickly on each side.
Then reduce the heat and cook for 3-4 minutes more on each side.
Meanwhile, peel and slice the onions.
Add to the pan and continue to fry for a further 5-6 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and the hamburgers are cooked through.
Top each hamburger with the fried onion, and serve with a mixed salad.
