1 lb. ground beef
 
1 cup chopped onion
 
1 cup cubed raw potatoes
 
1 cup sliced raw carrots
 
2 cup shredded cabbage
 
1 large can tomatoes
 
1 small bay leaf
 
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
 
1/4 tsp. dried basil
 
5 tsp. salt
 
1/8 tsp. pepper
 
1 1/2 qt. Water

Directions

Saute beef and onion until slightly brown.
Add all other ingredients, cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Cut cubes of Cheddar or Swiss cheese before putting soup into bowls.
